Why choose organic products?
The word ‘organic’ is something that you can find almost anywhere now. From the foods we eat to the skincare products we use. Australia is one of the important and emerging markets for organic and natural personal care products. Organic cosmetics, essential oils and other personal care products approximately account for 2% of the total organic cosmetics market in the country (Mordor Intelligence Report).
By definition, the word organic means something that is produced or involving production without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or other artificial chemicals.
The rise in the popularity of organic produce and products stems from the awareness people are beginning to have about what they should be using to not only help themselves but also the environment as well.
The ongoing trend of using organic additives in cosmetics and personal care products is expected to drive the Australian cosmetics & toiletries industry from A$8.09bn in 2019 to A$9.87bn in 2024, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
We as a society have become more conscious of what we are using and a lot of research has been produced to show the possible links between synthetic chemicals and severe health issues such as cancer and damage to our nervous system.
What is truly organic though? How can you tell if the product you are using is staying true to its organic claim?
1. Certification:
What is the ACO standard?
At Vanessa Megan we are extremely proud to be certified under the ACO [Australian Certified Organic] which is a food grade certification for our skincare.
ACO or the bud logo is a food grade certification. Each ingredient is audited from seed to extraction, making sure no synthetic or toxic elements come near the ingredient. It is a very long and tedious process.
In 2013, after close to a year of gathering and filing all required documents on our products, Vanessa Megan was approved by the ACO. We celebrated with a bottle of organic bubbles, what an achievement!
In 2015 our N.E.O Oil took out the ACO Gold award for best cosmetic product and we continue to annually win organic awards such as our most recent global Innovation Award of 2021 for best organic product for our 'Cryo Rosè' treatment [we’ll be telling you more about this next week].
We proudly wear the ACO logo as our promise to you, of the integrity of ingredients that we put inside each and every bottle of Vanessa Megan.
Vanessa Megan is annually audited and approved as a certified organic processor. Our Certification number is 11611.
Our ACO Certified products are: N.E.O [Nature’s Elixir Oil], Rose Hydrosol Toner and Intensive Dermal Repair Balm.
2. Read the labels:
Although some products claim to be organic, you should always read the ingredients list for yourself. Sneaky toxic ingredients can be lurking in between the organic ingredients so always make sure you are well equipped with information to understand what is in your products.
